RBSS board statement re: resident employment conditions

The Board of the RBBS is aware of the conflict between the trainees and the umbrella organisation of hospitals concerning the disparity in remuneration, working conditions and the incomplete social status of trainees.

The board fully supports their claim for a uniform employment contract within all training hospitals, for a correct social status and for sufficient time allocated to education and training.

To be selected for training for whatever branch of medicine is an achievement, reflecting skills and commitment. Our young colleagues will be the key players in our future health care system. We need to take care of them. They deserve to be properly trained in the correct conditions.

On behalf of the RBSS board,

dr. Charles de Gheldere                        prof.dr. Dirk Ysebaert
RBSS president                                     Secretary-General

New Year wishes and 2021 BSW dates !

Dear all,

On behalf of the RBSS board and our trusted  secretary Annette,  I wish all of you to have a serene end of this horrible year.

We all hope that you didn’t suffer personal loss, and that you will be able to spend some time with your family, albeit within the legal limits.

Having legal limits about spending time with friends and family is a sad thing…... but it is we have no choice : limiting our social contacts to the minimum minimorum is probably the wisest thing to do.

Let’s hope 2021 will be the year we got rid of COVID.

We also hope to have a real BSW next year and to meet a lot of you there.

So save the date for the next BSW : 7-11/9/2021.

Take care of each other.

Yours,

Charles

Dr. Charles de Gheldere F.E.B.S.Gen. Surg.

RBSS General Assembly 2020 - online

UPDATE 09-09-2020

Dear Colleague,

Our Royal Belgian Society for Surgery held its on-line General Meeting (postponed due to Covid-19) on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 7.30 p.m.

The agenda of this General Meeting contained changes to the bylaws, on the one hand an extension of directorships (which already exist unofficially), and on the other hand the possibility of relief in case of force majeure such as the Covid-19 pandemic. These changes to the bylaws required the presence of two thirds of the members and a majority vote. Unfortunately, there was not enough attendance to be able to vote validly.

Our bylaws allow that in that case a second (extraordinary) General Meeting can be convened after at least fourteen days, which may deliberate and resolve validly, regardless of the number of members present or represented. The Board therefore wishes to submit the proposals for changes to the statute to this second extraordinary General Meeting, which will be organized on September 22, 2020 at 7.30 pm. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this meeting will  agian only take place online, via the following link on the ZOOM platform:

https://tinyurl.com/GA2020RBSSextra

Pre-registration is necessary. Only effective members (full members and title holders) have the right to vote. Each member entitled to vote may be represented by proxy by another member who is entitled to vote. The proxy must reach the secretariat by September 21, 2020 at the latest.
The Board hopes to be able to welcome you numerous to this extraordinary General Meeting.

You can find the agenda as well as the proxy form in Dutch here and in French here, as required by the bylaws.

Dear Colleague,

Dear RBSS Member,

The Board of the Royal Belgian Society for Surgery invites you to the (due to Covid-19 postponed) General Meeting of our association. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this meeting will be online only on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 7:30 PM.

Pre-registration is mandatory via https://tinyurl.com/GA2020RBSS

Only effective members (full members and titulary members) have the right to vote. Each member entitled to vote may be represented by proxy by another member who is entitled to vote. The proxy must reach the secretariat before August 31, 2020.

As you can see in the invitation and the agenda (here in NL and here in FR), the agenda contains changes to the bylaws, on the one hand extending mandates (which already exist unofficially), on the other hand, the possibility of extension in case of force majeure such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Amendments to the bylaws require the presence of two thirds of the members and a majority vote. If the two thirds of the members are not present, a second (extraordinary) meeting will be convened after fourteen days, which may deliberate and resolve validly, regardless of the number of members present or represented.

The Board hopes to be able to welcome many of you to this General Meeting.

Please find the invitation and agenda here in NL and in FR.

CoVID-19 for surgeons

Dear all,

COVID-19 holds our whole world in a stranglehold.

Unlike  other countries we were lucky to have the opportunity to brace before things got out of hand.

We still don’t know how hard the virus  is going to hit us but at least most of our hospitals  did their best to be prepared for the attack..

We are all set. Or not. Only time will tell.

With this post, we want to reach out to you and offer you some background information as well as practical tips from within the surgical community. Check this page regularly as it will be updated along with expanding global knowledge and experiences.

Educational Committee

Following the success and the scope of the activities set up by the RBSS since 2018, the board decided to erect the Educational Committee.

Since 2018 and continued through 2019, RBSS organised the VATS tour, the Colorectal tour, two RBSS-meets-BAST-sessions. Moreover, as our society was asked to patronise the initiation and organisation of the Belgian 'edition' of the ATLS as the national surgical scientific organisation, it was decided to entrust these activities to an educational commitee created within the RBSS.
