Dear all,

Only 2 weeks left before the BSW !

We are very happy the government and the venue confirmed us that the event will be accessible with a COVID-SAFE TICKET.

No extra steps will be required for those in possession of an European Corona certificate. Your QR code will be checked at the entrance.

Check our website and conference app for the full info.

The good news is no limitations will apply once you’re in : full capacity of rooms, normal catering and a surgical night as it used to be, with a party !!

Although the government waived the obligation to wear a mask of course we count on everyone’s common sense, knowing what the Delta variant represents.

On the flip side :  online pre-registration will be mandatory in order to be in line with the regulations  !  On-site registration will only be possible in very exceptional circumstances !

So DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER ONLINE and join us at the first REAL Belgian surgical congress  since 2019 in the amazing FMCCA.

********************************

Dear all,

Time flies ! Less than 6 weeks to go before the 22nd BSW !

Despite the resurgence of the pandemic we are still confident - so far - about heading to a live congress from 9 until 11 September 2021 in the Elisabeth Center, Antwerp..

Although some legal restrictions will very likely apply, we are happy to offer you a BSW with real speakers, a real audience, a real technical exhibit, a surgical night, plenary sessions, catering, a quiz, a hands-on workshop, a young investigator award, a trainer-trainee session, free papers and video’s. All of this in a spectacular venue in Antwerp and in line with the legal safety COVID regulations of course.

Let’s cross fingers !

I hope you will join us.

Please find here the link to the program schedule with the overview of the 22nd BSW, the full program, the registration modalities, the necessary COVID-related mandatory restrictions and the plan of the technical exhibit and instructions how to get there. After your registration, I encourage you to download the Guidebook app on your smartphone to explore the conference program in all its details. With the option ‘My conference’, you can also compose your own personalised conference schedule!

We have been craving a real congress and put a lot of energy in this project. We hope that you will be as eager as we are to attend. At the occasion of the BSW, some sections as well as our main society will hold their general assembly, all of which already have been included in the program as well.

This conference would not be possible either without the valued support of our partners, to who’s booths you can bring a visit during the breaks. The location of the dedicated booths in the exhibit area are available in the map section of the app, as well as the floor plans of the venue and the conference rooms.

So please register, motivate your colleagues and your residents. Be part of this wonderful event!

Beware : no paper reminder will be sent !  Given the tight schedule, all info will be sent by mail and can be found on our website www.belgiansurgicalweek.be. Check it out !

Yours,

for the RBSS board,

Charles de Gheldere MD FEBS

Dear members,
Dear all,

 logoBSW2021finaldates    =  conversation  !

It is our pleasure to announce we have decided to organize the 22nd BSW in a LIVE format  from 9 until 11 September 2021 in the Elisabeth Center, Antwerp.

We delayed the final decision as long as possible to maximize the chances of taking the right decision, after gathering as much information as possible from the authorities and other stakeholders.

Although webinars for sure have their advantages, nothing beats the real thing.  Personally I am fed up watching presentations on a screen. I crave a real congress, with real presentations, a real audience, a real technical exhibit, real interactions with real colleagues, mentors, trainees, experts and the industry.

Maybe many of us didn’t know what a nice event the BSW was until they had to miss it. We are glad we’re back anyhow, with two plenary sessions, free paper sessions, full sessions organized by the sections and the affiliated societies, a  trainer-trainee session, the interuniversity quiz, hopefully a surgical night ( restrictions permitting), the RBSS/BGES/BAST hands-on workshop and a technical exhibit.

All of this for the first time ever in the heart of Antwerp, in the beautiful Elisabeth center, although international guests will be offered the possibility to present virtually if they don’t feel comfortable travelling.

We urge the sections and affiliated societies who wish to attend but haven’t confirmed yet to wait no longer before deciding ! They can organize a full session.

This year’s congress theme is “Connecting the dots”. The two plenary sessions will be dedicated to the congress’ theme. They will pertain to topics which might not seem directly connected to our surgical practice but which definitely will help those of us with an open mind to become better surgeons.

We cross fingers  and hope we took the right decision. Time will tell.

Since we had to delay  the decision so long and since most of us will - at last - take some weeks off this summer, we’ll be a little short on time. Less paperwork will be sent. Please keep an eye on your mailbox  : most of the info will be sent by mail.

Please join us in Antwerp and stimulate yours trainees to attend ; See real presentations and meet real colleagues !

We will keep you posted about the registration and the program ASAP. Keep an eye on the website www.belgiansurgicalweek.be!
