Farewell RBSS President 2019-2021

Dear all,

I really enjoyed the 22nd BSW and I hope you did too :  real attendees, real speakers, real interaction, a spectacular venue, inspiring presentations, a lot of youngsters….

CDG

dr. Charles de Gheldere

Thank all of you who made it possible : attendees, Annette, the board, our sponsors, AIM, our guest speakers, the staff from the venue,….

It was not perfect of course. All of you who attended will receive a mail with a feedback form in a couple of days. Please fill it out. Your comments could make the 23rd edition even better….

Yours,

Charles de Gheldere MD FEBS

BSW 2021: join us @FMCCA in Antwerp live!

Dear all,

Only 2 weeks left before the BSW !

We are very happy the government and the venue confirmed us that the event will be accessible with a COVID-SAFE TICKET.

No extra steps will be required for those in possession of an European Corona certificate. Your QR code will be checked at the entrance.

Check our website and conference app for the full info.

The good news is no limitations will apply once you’re in : full capacity of rooms, normal catering and a surgical night as it used to be, with a party !!

Although the government waived the obligation to wear a mask of course we count on everyone’s common sense, knowing what the Delta variant represents.

On the flip side :  online pre-registration will be mandatory in order to be in line with the regulations  !  On-site registration will only be possible in very exceptional circumstances !

So DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER ONLINE and join us at the first REAL Belgian surgical congress  since 2019 in the amazing FMCCA.

For the RBSS board,

Charles de Gheldere MD FEBS

COVID19 measures for BSW2021

The ongoing health situation has led to considerable realignment in the format and organisation of our congress, but we are well able to adapt!
The safety and experience of all attendees, exhibitors and visitors will be our absolute priority, and for this reason we have made several changes to the event format, with your health in mind, and in accordance with government advisories.
We will do everything in our ability to follow the health and safety guidelines together with you and turn the BSW2021 into a safe, responsible, and successful event for all of us.

We encourage all participants to travel to the FMCCA with their own transportation.
As you have probably heard or read, further to the Consultative Committee last Friday 20th Aug, many restrictions will be lifted from 1 September.

“For events with more than 200 participants indoor , the organizers who wish to do so can use the "Covid safe ticket" (CST), from September 1, and limit the public to people with CST. In this case only, the obligations concerning the mask, social distance and the CIRM / CERM (Covid Infrastructure Risk Model and Covid Event Risk Model) will be cancelled.”
 https://www.info-coronavirus.be/en/news/occ-2008/

--> Which means that for BSW2021, we will be able to use the Covid Safe Ticket and it will no longer be mandatory to wear a face mask and to keep a social distance.
Hand sanitiser and face masks will be provided onsite if needed.

In that case everyone entering the fair in the "SAS" (between the 2 entrance doors) has to be screened.

Please present the following documents at your arrival :
  • your COVID-SAFE TICKET, representing a vaccination certificate, or a 48hour valid rapid test or PCR test or a recovery certificate will be required to enter the congress venue
  • ID card or passport
  • printed confirmation fo your registration

Important to take into account:
- At the 1st scanning at the door the Covid Safe App will be scanned in combination with the check of your ID. If you refuse to show your ID or scans 'red' in the app, we cannot admit you to the venue.
- In Belgium we can scan the QR code of Belgians and other European countries.

- Please note that we need to screen every visitor EVERYDAY, so equally on 9th as well as on 10th Sept.

• Make sure to register in advance ! Online registrations will be possible until the 7th of Sept 2021 at midnight. This year onsite registration will not be possible.
• Arrive on time. We take additional corona safety measures meaning the checkin process may take a little longer.

BSW 2021: Connecting the Dots

                                                                        Dear All,

It is our pleasure to announce we have decided to organize the 22nd BSW in a LIVE format from 9
th to 11th September 2021 in the Elisabeth center, Antwerp.
We delayed the final decision as long as possible to maximize the chances of taking the right decision, after gathering as much information as possible from the authorities and other stakeholders.

Although webinars for sure have their advantages, nothing beats the real thing. Personally I am fed up watching presentations on a screen. I crave a real congress, with real presentations, a real audience, a real technical exhibit, real interactions with real colleagues, mentors, trainees, experts and the industry.

Maybe many of us didn’t realize what a nice event the BSW was until they had to miss it. We are glad we’re back anyhow, with two
plenary sessions, free paper sessions, full sessions organized by the sections and the affiliated societies, a trainer-trainee session, the interuniversity quiz, hopefully a surgical night ( restrictions permitting), the RBSS/BGES/BAST hands-on workshop and a technical exhibit.

All of this for the first time ever in the heart of Antwerp, in the beautiful Elisabeth center, although international guests will be offered the possibility to present virtually if they don’t feel comfortable travelling.

This year’s congress theme is “Connecting the Dots”. The two plenary sessions will be dedicated to the congress’ theme. They will pertain to topics which might not seem directly connected to our surgical practice but which definitely will help those of us with an open mind to become better surgeons.

We cross fingers and hope we took the right decision. Time will tell.

Since we had to delay the decision so long and since most of us will - at last - take some weeks off this summer, we’ll be a little short on time. Less paperwork will be sent. Please keep an eye on your mailbox: most of the info will be sent by email.

Please join us in Antwerp and stimulate yours trainees to attend: see real presentations and meet real colleagues !

We will keep you posted about the registration and the program ASAP. Keep an eye on the website !
