3rd RBSS-meets-BAST weekend - 2022 edition

Initially planned in March 2020 but further postponed due to the ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, the RBSS and the BAST are happy to announce the new date of the RBSS meets BAST weekend @Ardennes: 27-28 November 2022 08h30 - Sunday 13h30 at R-hotel (****) in Remouchamps, close to Liège.

This weekend is intended for both junior and senior surgical trainees, that will focus on hands-on training, theory and practice on medical writing, networking with senior surgeons and just having fun in 30 hours!

The progtam has been assembled with care to get your skills further depeninding on the advancement of your surgical training with different exercises for 1-2-3 year and 4-5-6 year trainees.

The participation fee of 100 EUR covers your participation in all parts of the program including the hands-on sessions, the medical writing course, team building activity as well as your hotel stay for 1 night in a shared room (as to minimize direct costs), lunch on Saturday as well as on Sunday before departure, breakfast on Sunday and an informal diner on Saturday evening.

Registration is open for all trainees that are member of the Belgian Association of Surgical Trainees (BAST) and are made on a first come, first served base.

Meet-the-expert - tours

Together with BAST, RBSS offers a limited number of highly motivated trainees to get in touch with and to attend surgeries of highly skilled surgeons who are working daily in our country to maintain standards at a high levels.

RBSS started in 2018 with a Tour de VATS, which was followed later on by a tour within colorectal and hepatobiliary departments throughout the country.

The Royal Belgian Society for Surgery, together with the Belgian Association of Surgical Trainees, is honored to invite two motivated Belgian trainees to 5 state-of-the-art thoracic surgery units for a visitorship of two days. During this two-day visit, guided by the best in the field, you will participate in the morning debrief, operating theatre, the multidisciplinary oncology consultation and others. In the evening, an exclusive dinner with your guiding surgeon is offered. Costs are covered.

Want to apply?

Subscription is open for all French speaking and Flemish speaking trainees - two trainees will be selected (1 FR, 1 VL)

You are a 5th or 6th year trainee in the period of the VATS Tour 

You have an outspoken interest in thoracic and lung surgery 

You are a member of both the BAST and RBSS

Letter of motivation (400 words) and one letter of recommendation

Letter of acceptance of all the teachers of your trainee hospital (obtain green light from all the trainers where you will rotate during the VATS Tour)

Short presentation at the next BSW 2021

Selection of the trainee by the 5 teachers involved by the program and the board of the RBSS
